COMMUNITY FORMALISATION

RESPONSIBLE TRADERS FACILITATION PROGRAMME (RTF)

Community formalisation is centred around the introduction of well-kept outlets, generally safe and conducive public spaces within communities. We are collaborating with liquor traders to facilitate safer and alcohol harm free outlets. Aware.org is funding Sekika to rollout the RTF Programme in 4 provinces namely; Mpumalanga, Free State, Eastern Cape and Gauteng.

The RTF Programme aims to:

  • Educate consumers, parents, youth, communities etc. around the dangers of alcohol abuse and the risks of underage drinking
  • Provide support to tavern owners to understand the implications of applicable liquor laws on their businesses, and to mentor them to operate within these laws and compliance guidelines
  • Implement a tavern scorecard against which to measure compliance of tavern owners to applicable codes and legislation
  • Leverage the programme‚Äôs results to build relationships with key stakeholders
  • Drive tavern CSI projects that will serve to foster relationships within the communities they serve

By ensuring the success of this initiative, aware.org is working collaboratively with the relevant Provincial Liquor Boards. The following strategic partners have been instrumental in selection of project beneficiaries, stakeholder engagements and monitoring the project roll out, namely:

  • Mpumalanga Economic Regulator
  • Free State Gambling Liquor and Tourism Agency
  • Eastern Cape Liquor Board
  • Gauteng Liquor Board
